About Grass Grubs in New Zealand
Grass grubs are one of New Zealand’s most damaging lawn pests. These beetle larvae feed on grass and crop roots, leading to yellowing patches from autumn through winter. The adult beetle flight season runs October to December, peaking in November. Eggs are laid underground and hatch within three weeks. Larvae progress through multiple stages, burrowing deeper over time.

Timing is everything. Effective treatment occurs when larvae are active in the upper soil (January to March). In winter, they burrow beyond 15cm and become harder to reach.

Usage

Neem Insecticide Spray
• Mix 10–15ml of Nativeneem Insecticide in 1L of warm water
• Apply evenly across 3–5m² of lawn
• Lightly water afterward to allow penetration 6–10cm deep
• Repeat after two weeks

Neem Granules
• Sprinkle 50–80g per m² after spraying
• Lightly rake in if needed
• Repeat every 6–8 weeks through to June

Spring and Summer
• Reduce insecticide to 5–10ml per 1L
• Use as needed from October to December
